The U.S. federal Posse Comatatus Act prohibits the use of federal military forces for domestic law enforcement. The Act was passed in 1878 to separate the military from domestic policing.  So far in 2025 the federal government has deployed active duty Marines to Los Angeles, as well as federalized National Guard troops for deployment to L.A., Portland, Chicago, Washington DC, and Memphis, repeatedly violating this law. 

Worse than that, the administration has used lies, fake crime statistics, and EOs designating anti-fascism protesters as terrorists to justify these illegal and unconstitutional deployments, intending to CAUSE unrest, rather than solve what truly are nonexistent problems.  Furthermore, the deployment of Texas National Guard troops to Chicago marks the 1st time Federalized southern troops have been deployed to northern states since the American Civil War and the confederate march on Gettysburg.
