Political commentator Stephen Miller has been accused of being a fascist by a range of critics, including politicians, journalists, and civil rights organizations. They have been amplified since he became Deputy Chief of Staff for Trump's second term. The primary driver and spokesman for the worst and most harmful policies of this administration, he is ushering in a new era of American Fascism, against the will of a large majority of Americans. Just some of the reasons we label him an "American Fascist" are thus:
- Embracing white nationalist ideas: In 2019, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) published leaked emails Miller sent to Breitbart News in 2015 and 2016. These emails included links to white nationalist and white supremacist websites like VDARE and American Renaissance. Miller also promoted the racist novel The Camp of the Saints, which describes a refugee invasion of Europe.
- Promoting extreme immigration policies: As a senior advisor to Trump, Miller was a key architect of the administration's "zero tolerance" immigration policy that led to the separation of children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. This policy was widely condemned by human rights organizations. He has long advocated for restricting both legal and illegal immigration, a stance that critics argue is rooted in racist and anti-immigrant ideologies.
- Attacks on democratic norms: Critics contend that Miller's rhetoric undermines democratic institutions by demonizing political opponents and the media. For example, in 2025, California Governor Gavin Newsom's office referred to Miller as a fascist on social media after Miller labeled the Democratic Party a "domestic extremist organization". Journalists and other commentators have also noted his penchant for extreme and sometimes violent language.
- Leading a conservative legal foundation: In 2021, Miller founded America First Legal, a conservative public interest group. The organization has been described as advancing a far-right agenda by filing lawsuits against companies and policies it accuses of discriminating against white people. It took it's name from the America First Committee of the 1930's and 40's known for it's demands for non-intervention against Hitler, and for it's anti-semitic and fascist views of it's most prominent speakers, leaders, and members.
